Forget those splitter cables – the latest update to Algoriddim’s djay 2 for Android DJ software was released today, and it lets you use the onboard sound cards of supported DJ controllers, meaning you can finally connect your headphones and speakers straight to your controller for full stereo headphone cueing and master output.
Connect Android Djay 2 To Midi Controller 2
Previously, controllers like the Reloop Beatpad and Pioneer DDJ-WeGO3 worked only as Midi devices, so you still had to run a splitter cable like the Griffin DJ Cable from your Android device’s headphone jack to hook up your speakers and headphones, which has always been an ingenious solution to headphones cueing with just a single stereo audio output, but is hardly ideal. This update solves that.
Android DJing comes of age
It’s about time that Android users get a full mobile DJing experience whenever they use a DJ app with an all-in-one hardware controller. iOS users have been enjoying this for quite some time and are spoiled for choice, both in terms of DJ apps (eg Traktor DJ, djay 2, Cross DJ, etc) as well as compatible DJ controllers (Traktor Kontrol S2 mk2, and both the Pioneer DDJ-WeGO3 and Reloop Beatpad come to mind).
The latest version of Android OS (5.0 Lollipop) makes multi-channel audio output possible, so do note that you’ll have to upgrade your Android device to the latest OS version to make this work. It looks like we’re finally seeing the platform move closer to standing toe-to-toe with iOS in the DJing department…
• djay Free was also released by Algoriddim today, which is a free to download app that retains many of the features of djay 2, such as Spotify integration, onboard effects and controller integration. Find out more at the Algoriddim website.
